Ma.gnolia has a compelling case for switching away from Del.icio.us. Their app is well thought out, with a variety of interesting features. All of which are surrounded by a beautiful design.
I went as far as importing in all my old links. The process took less than 5 minutes. It really couldn’t have gone better.
Yet I didn’t stick with it.
It’s not that I harbor any great loyalty to Del.icio.us. I’m glad it exists. I love that it’s free (of both ads and fees). But I don’t feel any strong connection to it as a brand.
It’s more an issue of weight.
While the move over to Ma.gnolia is surprisingly light, web apps are coming fast these days. The idea of “upgrading” every-time an improved version of an existing idea comes along carries enough weight that it’s going to take something revolutionary to move me away from apps that have become established in my digital life.
